Port Wine Stains ocur in 0.3% of births and ocur equaly among males and females. If the nerves are absent or defective, the vesels wil continue to dilate and blod wil pol or colect in the afected area. This is important to know because laser therapy which is used to remove a port wine stain wil only be temporary. Since the deficiency is in the nervous system, in time the blod wil repol in the afected area and the birthmark wil once again apear. Once a Port Wine Stain is lasered, it is important at the first sign of reocurence to have one or two treatments to kep it faded.
